In myths that have been passed down from ancient times to the present, we often see the image of mermaids.
In fact, mermaids (mermaids) are also known as “dragons”, which are a type of aquatic creature that looks like a human. They do not have legs, instead they have the body of a fish but have a head, face and hands like a human, belonging to the mysterious creatures in the ocean. However, what we know about mermaids now are all stories or strange records, do mermaids really exist?
For many years, scientists have been trying to uncover this secret, but it seems that there has been no discovery. However, recently, people have discovered fossils of mermaids, and this discovery proves that mermaids really do exist.
The first story about mermaids appeared more than 2,300 years ago, recorded in Bassus’s “History of All Time”: fish-like shape, human-like lower body with legs connected to a fish tail. In the 17th century, “Hutson’s Travel Diary” was published in England. According to the description, the back and chest of the mermaid exposed at sea resembled a woman, with white skin and long black hair down her back.
In April 1990, the newspaper reported that construction workers discovered a 173 cm long mermaid mummy on the Black Sea coast. Scientists estimated that the mummy was about 3,000 years old and had lived at least 100 years before it died. In August of the following year, when an American fisherman cut open the belly of a 18.3 meter long shark, they discovered a skeleton with the upper half resembling a human and the lower half resembling a fish. After examination, it was indeed a half-human, half-fish creature.
In the early 1990s, archaeologists discovered the world’s most complete mermaid fossil, about 12,000 years old, on the coast of Yugoslavia. This mermaid may have been buried alive in a landslide under the seabed, protected by the surrounding limestone and slowly turned into a fossil. According to the data from the fossil, the mermaid was about 160 cm tall, from the waist up like a human, with a developed head, a relatively large brain size, claws on both hands, and no eyelids like other fish.
However, some people still believe that mermaids are just dugongs or manatees (sea cows), and that the so-called “mermaid” or “mermaid” may be a female manatee. According to the description in Columbus’s logbook, manatees, although similar to mermaids, are not as beautiful and charming as in fairy tales.
Why do creatures like mermaids exist? Researchers believe that, during the course of history, for some reason, a part of the human race lived for a very long time at the bottom of the sea, and their bodies developed fish-like tails, eventually evolving into mermaids. But over time, people forgot about it and it eventually became a legend. In any case, the deepest parts of the ocean are more mysterious than outer space, so it is possible that there are still some aquatic species living there.
