Just when we thought the fiasco surrounding Jason Aldean’s contentious hit “Try That in a Small Town” was finally starting to simmer down, the country music superstar has turned up the heat yet again. This time, not by delivering another chart-topping hit, but by launching a cool $100 billion lawsuit against the legendary talk show host and Emmy-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg.Yes, you read that right, folks. A good ol’ country boy is taking on a Hollywood heavyweight in what may be the most expensive cowboy duel in history.
The showdown began on an episode of ‘The View’, where Goldberg critiqued Aldean’s song, claiming it promotes an extremist view of America. She went as far as saying that the song’s lyrics were a “threat to the fabric of our society.”
It seems her comments were a little too spicy for Aldean’s liking, who decided to bite back with a lawsuit that is as extravagant as a rhinestone-studded cowboy boot.
But what did Whoopi do when she heard about the lawsuit? She reportedly choked on her morning coffee and shouted, “Honey, you’ve got to be kidding me!”
Aldean, however, is as serious as a rattlesnake in a sleeping bag. In a statement released by his legal team, he defended his song and accused Goldberg of defamation. “Miss Goldberg’s comments have damaged my reputation and undermined my music. We are asking for a public apology and a hefty sum of $100 billion in damages.”
Meanwhile, Goldberg, shocked by the amount, is reportedly considering selling her extensive shoe collection to pay off the impending debt. “I have enough shoes to fill a warehouse,” she said in a recent interview. “I guess it’s time to let some of them go.”
Of course, this story has stirred up the Twitter nest like a twister in Tornado Alley. While Aldean’s fans have started a #JusticeForJason trend, Whoopi’s supporters have responded with a #WhoopiWillNotBeSilenced movement. But, the real winner here is Twitter owner Elon Musk, who’s likely cackling in his Tesla while watching the tweet count skyrocket.
