Before the Ball Roll: Jason Kelce Makes Surprise Performance with Mount Joy Band

Jason Kelce is proving once again that he is the king of all media. The former NFL lineman turned podcaster turned TV analyst is now a band frontman… Sort of.

Kelce joined indie rock band Mt. Joy outside of Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday to debut his new Christmas song with the band, “Santa Drives an Astrovan.”

The song is part of the annual Christmas album Kelce releases to help raise money for charities around the Philadelphia area.

Kelce and Mt. Joy, the Philly-native band, performed ahead of the Eagles’ “Thursday Night Football” game against the Commanders.

“What’s up everybody! Thank y’all for coming out,” Kelce said to the raucous crowd before he started singing.“This goes a long way to help me promote this album which is going to help a lot of families around this area around the holidays. So thank you so much for supporting.”

imageAnother video posted to social media showed Kelce encouraging the crowd to give “the real musicians on the stage” Mt. Joy a cheer.

Kelce had talked about the performance earlier this week during the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast that he co-hosts with his brother Travis.

“We initially were like, ‘We’re just gonna do something in the parking lot. It’ll be fun. Just to get it on video to help promote it,’” he said during the show. “And somehow it’s turned into we full-on have a stage in the Linc … and we’re just gonna be performing this song right before the most important game of the Eagles’ season to date takes place.”

The upcoming Christmas album — titled “A Philly Special Christmas Party” — has already generated headlines with the release of the first single, “Maybe This Christmas,” which was a duet with Stevie Nicks.

The Thursday night concert is sure to add to the buzz for the anticipated project.
